Millennium Music co-owner/manager Kent Wagner announced plans for the King Street music shop to shift into more of a service-oriented business. On their various “rip, load, and go” services, the store made this announcement: “Trade what you don’t want and we’ll rip what you do want. Clean up your CD clutter. Let us digitize the CDs you want on your iPod. Just give us the CDs, your iPod, and 48 business hours, and we’ll do all the work!” They charge two bucks per CD with 10-disc minimum for a loaded iPod and DVD backup. Other rip, storage, and transfer services are available as well. Local music lovers can call the store at 722-1016 ext. 212 or e-mail them at ripping@FeedYourPlayer.com. Check out

In May 2006, Precision Guitar & Music shop moved their entire operation from their longtime digs at the Peach Orchard Plaza on Coleman Blvd. up the street to a bigger facility on Hibben Street. This week, retail store owner Bryn Wilson, who also plays lead guitar with local rock quartet The Hed Shop Boys, recently opened the doors to a brand-new facility off Long Point Road at 589 Belle Hall Pkwy. (just behind the old Waffle House). The facility will offer the same sales, service, lessons, and accessories as before — along with the Joe Wilson (Bryn’s super-talented dad) Guitar Workshop. Contact Precision at 884-8597.

Charleston greaser rock trio The Defilers are officially the openers for legendary country music veteran Merle Haggard on Fri. Aug. 10 at the N. Charleston Performing Arts Center. While The Defilers usually crank things up good, hard, and fast on the local bar stages, they’ll likely handle this concert event with a bit more sober refinement. Maybe. They usually run on burp-inducing fuel, so fans should cross their fingers. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for $45 (plus applicable fees). Check out www.merlehaggard.com and www.myspace.com/thedefilers for more. —T. Ballard Lesemann
