It’s easy to laugh at Miss Teen South Carolina and her rambling response to a question about why Americans can’t find the U.S. on a map. She notes some people don’t have maps and then proceeds to name every struggling foreign country and continent she can think of (some more than once) until the time runs out.
As a former pageant finalist (Second Runner-Up, Groovy Teens 1994), I can tell you that those make-or-break questions are scary and easily flubbed when you get one you didn’t prepare for. I think mine may have been about bringing world peace and I spent most of the time commenting on the host’s tie. And he most certainly was not Mario Lopez.
