Will Folks is reporting on his blog that Henry McMaster will not be running for governor in 2010. Anyone who has observed McMaster’s non-stop media campaign will certainly be shocked. This plays very well for House Speaker Bobby Harrell, a fellow McCain supporter and Lowcountry legislator.
The first time I met Harrell, the then Ways and Means chair was speaking to a Beaufort Republican Women group. In her introduction, Sen. Catherine Ceips told the crowd, “You haven’t had a chance to vote for him — yet.”
Without another hole in the upper reaches of the state’s GOP leadership, it doesn’t appear likely that Harrel has another choice but to run for governor.
