After a lengthy hiatus, longtime Charleston radio personality Jim “The Critic” Voigt is back on the air! After some time away from town, he’s ready to rock the local airwaves with two new specialty shows on The Bridge at 105.5 FM (WCOO). Booking one of the best DJs of the former 96 Wave’s heyday — it’s a great snag for the Bridge.

“After a year spent traveling, writing, eating, imbibing, and carousing — think Anthony Bourdain without the culinary skills — I’m returning to the airwaves for the first time since late August 2007 with two specialty programs,” says The Critic.

Next weekend’s debut includes “The Critic’s Hootenanny,” which airs on Sat. Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. to noon, and “The Critic’s Choice,” on Sun. Feb. 24 again from 9 to noon.

“The Saturday morning show will be more electric guitar-based, and the Sunday morning show will be more acoustic guitar-based,” Critic says. “Starting this weekend, expect to hear a wide variety of artists — everything from new cuts by the Drive-By Truckers, Cat Power, Nada Surf, and Jason Collett, to personal faves from the likes of X, The Jam, New York Dolls, and Jason & the Scorchers.”
