Unless a cigar aficionado has a post-Fidel connection, or a relative or friend with a stash of genuine Cubans, it’s likely they have to search high and low for top-shelf smokes. Currently, the best and most expensive cigars are from Honduras or the Dominican Republic, and manufactured by companies such as Davidoff, Dunhill, Ashton, Don Carlos, and Padrón. “The Davidoff line is definitely one of the finest,” says Lola Marley, owner of the Smoking Lamp tobacco boutique, Charleston’s oldest smoke shop and an exclusive dealer of the Geneva-based company. Customers can buy a box of 25 Davidoff Special R cigars for $385.75 and as singles for $15/35. Remember kids, tobacco products are for grown-ups … and expensive ones are available here, just past the green canopy on East Bay Street.
