Charleston County’s Environmental Management Department and the City of Charleston’s Green Committee are teaming up to bring recycling to the Piccolo Spoleto Finale. The Finale will take place at Hampton Park on June 6, from 4-9 p.m.
The committees are providing 10 to 15 stations around the event site, each containing one trash can and one recycling bin. Attendees are encouraged to take advantage of these bins by separating materials and recycling empty plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and glass bottles.
Coordinators are hoping to educate the public about recycling in Charleston and maintaining a fully sustainable environment. For the 2008 finale, 280 pounds of material was recycled, and more is expected this year.
Volunteers are needed to help with the recycling effort. For more info, contact Dan Dickison at dwgd82@juno.com or (843) 607-0365. —Lindsay Frost
