S.C. House Republicans will gather in Myrtle Beach this weekend to “to discuss agenda, issues and politics, and to play golf,” according to The State newspaper. All true no doubt, but the newspaper did not mention what these wise ones will be doing in Myrtle Beach when the sun goes down.

As anyone knows who has read my book, Banana Republic — A Year in the Heart of Myrtle Beach, the town has more bars, strip clubs and hookers per square mile than any southern city north of Miami Beach and east of New Orleans. The question is, can these GOP horn dogs actually spend a weekend there without getting their names in the paper for something beyond the realm of politics? We’ll be watching.
