Travel + Leisure just released their “It List” of the 61 Best New Hotels of 2013. Only seven hotels from the United States placed, and Charleston’s very own Zero George was one of them. Owned by Dean Andrews, formerly of the Charleston Place, Zero George is being heralded as “a local iconoclast” because its contemporary style is a first for a town drenched in all things antebellum. The hotel spans three early 19th-century residences and two carriage houses — and includes outdoor space perfect for enjoying refreshments from the café and bar. Andrews earned his sport for accomplishing the difficult task of maintaining the high level of quality and charm come to be expected in local hospitality while also taking a firm step in the direction of contemporary design.
