North Charleston’s new Destiny Community Café, Charleston’s only pay-what-you-can restaurant, is getting a helping hand thanks to the staff at the Obstinate Daughter. The team at O/D have signed on to donate food and services as well as cook a meal at the cafe once a month.

O/D’s Chef de Cuisine Will Fincher says that volunteering at Destiny Community Cafe was an easy choice, as giving back is a big part of the restaurant’s culture. “Our sister restaurant the Wild Olive, does a monthly service project. They adopted a section of highway and clean it every month,” he says. “We wanted to get something started for the O/D, and this looked like a perfect fit.” Fincher hopes that other restaurants will be encouraged to volunteer at Destiny as well.

The first O/D lunch takeover will be on Wed. July 22. As with every meal served at the cafe, anyone is invited to join for lunch and pay as much as they can. All the money goes directly back to the café. The restaurant is open Mon.-Fri. from noon to 2 p.m.
