A poll by Winthrop University showed that two-thirds of South Carolinians polled believe that removing the Confederate flag from the Statehouse was the right thing to do. Rumors swirled on Tuesday that South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy was being courted by conservative Republicans to succeed Speaker John Boehner as the leader of the Republican House, but Gowdy himself squashed those ‘draft’ efforts, saying he’ll remain as the head of the special committee investigating the Benghazi attacks. As part of the inquest into Planned Parenthood initiated by Gov. Nikki Haley, S.C. lawmakers grilled state HHS Director Christian Soura, a former Haley deputy, about state Medicaid money that may have been used for abortions at Planned Parenthood yesterday.
