Boba Tea Café to Operate out of Former Taco Spot Location
Charleston, SC (February 7, 2017) Tapio is pleased to announce that it has relocated to 221 ½ Coming Street in order to expand its offerings. NAI Avant brokers Andrew Braden and Elliot Calhoun represented the tenant in the transaction. Tim Hagar of National Restaurant Properties represented the landlord.
Tapio, a family owned Boba Tea café offering 26 flavors of milk and frozen Boba Teas, was founded in 2014 by a couple from New Jersey in effort to bring Boba Tea to Charleston. Formerly at 65 Spring Street in Downtown Charleston, Tapio will occupy two buildings at 221 ½ Coming Street, formerly Apartment A and mini-restaurant, the Taco Spot (still operating at its West Ashley location). Originating as a small tea house, Tapio will now offer authentic Taiwanese and Thai cuisine in addition to an extended beverage selection at its new location. The restaurant is expected to open during Q1 2017.
“Tapio’s introduction of this unique product to the Charleston market, has received an abundance of support, creating rapid growth for the company,” said Braden. “Understanding Tapio’s immediate needs and future goals was important when evaluating space for its next location, and we are thrilled to have secured this iconic building for Tapio’s next steps.”
“Tapio is all about family, and we believe family starts with good food and drinks,” said owner of Tapio, Terry Hung. “We have noticed that it is becoming more and more expensive to dine in Charleston. So, we set out to create something unique for Charleston but traditional for us that is affordable. We believe good eats transforms to happiness and happiness transforms into love.”
