Was it really 15 years ago that Kelly Clarkson sang “A Moment Like This” on the American Idol stage during its premiere season? Was it really 12 years ago when adorable then-22 year old Carrie Underwood wore bell-bottom bleached jeans and sang Bonnie Rait in her audition, citing Martina McBride as her fave singer and showing Simon and Randy how she could cluck just like a chicken? Nostalgia, hitting all the high notes.
While the 2018 season of American Idol will lack the British-accent laced burns — “You will never have a career in singing, seriously never” — of Simon Cowell (apparently he’s turned down an offer to be on the panel), it will still have that allure of potential instant fame. Potential being the operative word, but hey, if you miss, you’ll land among the stars — anyone remember big-name past winners Taylor Hicks, Cris Allen, and David Cook?
