After more than six decades in business on King Street, Bob Ellis Shoes closed up shop late last year. According to the P&C, The Kalinsky family, who owned the shoe store at 332 King, sold the building this August to a “partnership” led by Ben Nickoll, a Connecticut investor who has also purchased the former Dixie Furniture building. The partnership has plans to develop both spaces into boutique hotels.
For now, though, the walls that once housed designer shoes are now home to a multitude of tacky Christmas and Hanukkah sweaters. If that’s not a sign of the times, well … Uncle Kyle’s Sweater Emporium, which was located at 414 King St. this time last year, is occupying the former shoe store in all it’s moth ball/srat star glory.
When we popped in earlier this week, a number of bright-eyed bushy-tailed college kids were shopping for what we presume can only be the like, most fun tacky Xmas party on campus. We jest — it was not so long ago that we donned sweaters, vests, and light-up necklaces all drenched in Natty Lite and shame. If you’re looking for a fun and affordable outfit that will survive the fraternity dance floor, Uncle Kyle’s got you covered.
