It’s fall — ready to hop on the September bandwagon that brings pumpkin-flavored treats into coffee shops, restaurants and even breweries?
Check out Hardscoop’s boozy pumpkin spice ice cream, which may offer a change of pace from classic pumpkin-y dessert or drink. The 8.1 percent alcohol ice cream from the 3-year-old Charleston-based creamery can be found in local Bottles Beverage Superstores and Harris Teeter locations starting Tuesday.
“We wanted to recreate the experience that so many people have had growing up which is that holiday pumpkin pie,” said Hardscoop president Jason Kirby. “We started to test with that idea, and we used real spices as well. We combined it all together, and adjusted all the spices, which took a long time.”
Kirby said Hardscoop offers four core flavors of its alcoholic ice creams along with seasonal treats like the pumpkin spice.
This is the company’s third crack at pumpkin spice ice cream, and Kirby says this is the best one yet — in part because they had extra time to experiment due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“When this started, the first thing that we began to do was make hand sanitizer like everybody else, and we continued to make it because DHEC and Charleston County still needed it,” he said. “Since we’ve been working these long hours, we have had more of a chance to get in the lab and tinker with some new flavors.”
Kirby hinted at more seasonal flavors to come, but for now they’ll focus on the pumpkin spice, which he said is delicious as is, or mixed with cold brew coffee or even sandwiched between two cookies of your choosing.
