Pitmaster John Lewis’ El Paso-style spinoff Juan Luis will launch its lunch and dinner service on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Located in a custom-built trailer next to the Lewis Barbecue smokehouse, Juan Luis debuted with daily breakfast in September.
Last month, Lewis told the City Paper that there are five dishes that people in El Paso can’t live without — tacos, chile rellenos, enchiladas, gorditas and smothered “Christmas-style” burritos. Those five staple “platos” are the star of Juan Luis’ daytime menu and are served with Spanish rice and Morrow Farms pinto beans Lewis brought to Charleston from Hatch, New Mexico.
Chiles from Hatch, New Mexico are featured on each of the five dishes offered at Juan Luis. For drinks, look for margaritas (frozen or on-the-rocks), canned and bottled beer and house-made agua fresca.
“The breakfast tacos have been a hit so far, and I’ve been really impressed with how many people have ordered chips and queso in the morning, too. It makes my Texas heart proud,” Lewis said. “We’ve really dialed in the process to make sure once guests place an order, they get their food quickly.”
Juan Luis is open daily with breakfast tacos at 8 a.m. and will transition to its lunch and dinner menu at 11 a.m.
