“SC House justice panel seems to skirt race, critics say” answered a question I had since this “task” group was defined by the legislative leadership. Turns out not enough. Here is my tongue-in-cheek S.C. legislative response model to race and equity.
1. Give issues the silent treatment first.
2. Then feigned ignorance. (“I didn’t know that.”)
3. Then the talk-a-lot with the slow drawl so it is mud and caveated to death.
4. Address the most obvious symptoms that get the editorialists riled.
5. Wait. Wait. Refer. Hearing. Forum. Study.
6. Wait for the issue to rekindle and to emerge to know with certainty that the prior fix did not address the issue.
7. The last step of the current cycle- “Give it even more time. (Let’s be sure.”)
Repeat the cycle in steps 1-7 as an infinite loop to grind the issue down to apparent nothingness until the heat ignites the pile again.
