For the second day in a row, South Carolina health officials reported more than 3,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases on Saturday. Percent positive reports saw a jump as well on Saturday, a 30% increase compared to Friday.

S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control reported 3,047 confirmed cases Saturday, along with 12 deaths from the coronavirus. With 13,234 tests reported, 23% were positive, up from 18.2% on Friday. Charleston saw roughly 112 new cases of COVID-19.

The sustained high case counts come as America’s first COVID-19 vaccine shipments start to move treatments to every corner of the nation. However, most Americans will have to wait months for a vaccine as high-risk individuals are prioritized.
