Charles Towne Fermentory’s Avondale taproom is now open for the first time since March 2020. The brewery will continue to offer online ordering and curbside pick-up and is encouraging customers to download the Arryved app, which provides a contact-free way for patrons to open and close tabs.
“We’ve been obviously trying to make the socially conscious decision on when to reopen and on top of that, we’ve been really fortunate to have a lot of support from our customers throughout the year,” said Charles Towne Fermentory founder and head brewer Adam Goodwin. “Because our customers were so supportive with us moving all of our beer to retail, we didn’t want to do anything that drove those customers away. As we get into the spring, and into the rollout of vaccines and hopefully things looking like they’ll be on the up and up, we just felt like we had to get open after a year of essentially not having our main revenue source.”
Charles Towne Fermentory has implemented several safety precautions since reopening its taproom on Monday, including limited seating and a mask requirement for patrons who get up from their table. The Arryved iPhone app will also help limit contact between customers and brewery employees, Goodwin said.
“It’s our point of sale system, and they’re designed for breweries. They have an app that you can download and use it to open or close any tab,” said Goodwin, adding that Commonhouse Aleworks, Indigo Reef Brewing Company, Oak Road Brewery and Brewlab also use Arryved. “It was a good thing for us to implement to minimize contact for our customers and bartenders.”
Initial opening hours are Monday-Thursday from 2-8 p.m., Friday from 2-9 p.m., Saturday from 12-9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. For more information, visit chsfermentory.com.
