What you need to know: A variant of COVID-19 called delta, which was originally detected in India for the first time, has made it’s way to South Carolina. Four cases have been confirmed in the Midlands, Pee Dee and Lowcountry areas. State public health director Dr. Brannon Traxler cautions that the delta variant is 40% more transmissible and poses a greater risk of hospitalization. Source: GoUpstate

South Carolina health officials reported 164 total cases of the coronavirus on Thursday (94 confirmed, 70 probable), with  four confirmed deaths.

With 5,056 tests reported Thursday, 2.7% were positive.
