The City of Charleston’s annual school supply drive kicked off with drop-off locations in West Ashley, James Island, North Charleston, Daniel Island and downtown. Find exact drop-off locations below.

Each year, the city puts out a call for supplies to ensure that incoming students will have everything they need before schools open in the fall.

Residents can donate any school-related supplies, but the most requested items include:

  • Crayons
  • Composition books
  • Two-pocket folders
  • Pencils
  • Glue
  • Markers
  • Colored pencils
  • Index cards
  • Scissors
  • Erasers
  • Small tissue packets

Donations will be accepted through Tues., Aug. 3 and will be distributed to students as pre-packed backpacks filled with essential supplies during the city’s 17th annual First Day Festival on Sun., Aug. 8.

This year’s festival will take place at the Charleston Gaillard Center and South Carolina Aquarium from 1-4 p.m. With exhibitors in attendance to share information on school resources and services as well as activities like free admission to the aquarium and a kids zone, the First Day Festival is a fun and educational way to kick off the school year. Lowcountry Food Bank will also be at the event to distribute free food.
