[image-1]When we interviewed Alejandro Torio for our “The Return of East Bay Street” feature in September, he said his forthcoming restaurant 5Church Charleston would make East Bay and Market cool again. Now we’ll find out if he can do it. Tomorrow night, 5Church opens for business.

The restaurant replaces Mad River Bar & Grill at 32B North Market St. — once the home of Church of the Redeemer — and features Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War” painted on the ceiling. But it looks like Chef Jamie Lynch’s menu will be more standard American fare. A press release promises a “60 Second” NY Strip Steak and 5Church Lamb Burger.

The space seats 170 people and will have an outdoor patio and bar area, as well as a private dining room. For more information, visit 5churchcharleston.com
