Due to non-renewal of its lease on lower King Street, King Street Grille will close its doors for good on Sun. Aug. 28.

The sports bar opened 13 years ago and quickly expanded adding locations on Kiawah at Freshfields Village, Mt. Pleasant, North Charleston, and at Citadel Mall. The latter closed last year with the owners citing “uncontrollable circumstances.”

“We would like to thank all of our customers and employees for the support over the years. We started on King Street and King Street will always be in our name even if we don’t have a King Street restaurant,” co-owner Scott Kier says in a press release. According to the release, the owners hope to return to King Street in the future “under a situation where the lease agreement is mutually beneficial to all parties.”

King Street Grille’s departure leaves a two-story hole in the middle of Charleston’s busiest shopping area. But hey, perhaps the space will be filled with more of the oxymoronic high-end student housing coming up the street on King. That or another Chipotle — whatever the kids are into these days.

King Street Grille will be open next week from 11 a.m.-11 p.m., Mon.-Thurs., 11 a.m.-12 a.m. Fri.-Sat. and from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. on Sunday.
