The American Theater will play host to a special screening of 3 Billion and Counting on Wed. Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. The documentary takes a look at malaria and how the ban on DDT may play a role in the spread of the disease.

Sounds simple enough, right? Well, I’m not so sure about that.

Now, normally I wouldn’t editorialize as much as I am about to, but because this is a blog, what the hell: There’s something a little suspect about the objectivity of this film. When your website says that DDT is “an extraordinary life-protecting chemical” and that “shortsightedness of governmental and environmental policies is causing the deaths of millions and the suffering of billions,” because we’re not using DDT anymore, you’ve got to wonder what the filmmakers motives are.

Luckily, filmmaker Dr. Rutledge Taylor will be at the screening, so, if I went, I could ask him what’s up.

And you know what’s cool? Debbie Gibson did the soundtrack. That alone is worth checking out.
