Best Local Clothing Designer
Amy Driggers, Taxidermy

While working for a small, high-end luxury store in the Washington, D.C., area, Amy Driggers got the idea to create her own line in 2014. It started out with just handbags but has expanded to include sneakers, accessories and clothing. “I was tired of carrying the same bags that everybody has — the same mass-produced, logo handbags,” she explained. “So, I decided that I could probably make my own.” And, that she did. The entire Taxidermy brand is centered around exotic pelts, mainly python, but she’s added ostrich, crocodile and, most recently, leather to the brand’s repertoire. Just a year after launching the line, Driggers and her husband moved to Charleston where she began doing pop-ups before moving into a space on Vendue Range for two years. Now, you can stop by her storefront at 62 Spring St. to peruse styles, but the brand is best known for its custom orders. “We offer our clientele something that no one else really has,” she said. “We work really one-on-one with our clients to design a one-of-a-kind bag.” With a list of celebrity clients as long as a CVS receipt, it’s no wonder Amy Driggers was voted Best Local Clothing Designer. Just six months after launching the brand, Driggers got her first celebrity client — Beyonce. Since then, celebrity clients include the Kardashians, Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, Ludacris, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his wife Amy, Meghan McCain and Jennifer Lawrence, just to name a few.
