We were pulling real hard for names like Lardbird or Fowl Mouthed, but after 25 suggestions from CP readers, Chef Robert Stehling has laid them all aside and decided to dub his new fried chicken restaurant Chick’s Fry House (1011 King St.).

In addition to offering Chick’s special fried chicken (described here) in 2-piece, 4-piece, or 8-piece counts, the restaurant will also sell hot doughnuts based on the Polish pączki tradition. The yeast-based sweets stuffed varieties will come filled with flavors like strawberry-rhubarb and banana pudding and be topped with various icings.

Of course, Stehling and his Executive Sous Chef Dave Uecke couldn’t open a fried chicken spot without fixings. For that there will be the requisite biscuit (perfected at Hominy Grill) and sides like mac and cheese, rice, limas, stewed greens, slaw, and Stehling’s signature tomato pudding.

Local beers as well as Boylan sodas and sweet tea will quench guests’ thirst.

The corner location will seat 40 inside with patio seating outdoors and be open daily, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Chick’s is expected to hatch this spring.
