As the lowest-rated ABC affiliate in the nation, news station WJCL was chosen to be part of a reality TV series that shows how the underdog cast and crew of WJCL imitate the little engine that could as they do the best work possible for their unpopular station. The series began last night at 8 p.m. and continues for another 12 episodes on The TV Guide Channel.
WJCL was chosen out of 25 prospective stations by the TV Guide Network because of its poor rankings, the beauty of Savannah, and the fact that they are a dual station, (partnered with Fox 28 another low-rated station).
The crew suffers from technological problems and the dirty business of a former manager who stole money from the station.
Viewers will be able to see how news anchors, cameramen, and reporters deal with the daily struggle of putting on several daily live broadcasts. The TV Guide camera crew set out from Los Angeles in November to shadow the WJCL crew, which includes news director Michael Sullivan, entertainment reporter Jennifer Beale, sports director Frank Sulkowski, Stephanie Simoni, Jason Davis, Wendy McNew, and Danielle Powell. —Caitlin Baker
