Chances are there’s not a single City Paper reader whose favorite childhood toy is the same as Bill Cool’s. “Gosh, I don’t know, my foot probably,” he says with a laugh. OK. Cool, the main man for The Cool fesses up. It was his bike. “That got me places.” On Sun. Dec. 9 at the Sand Dollar on Folly Beach, Cool, his bandmates, and a host of the Holy City’s finest musicians will be collecting Christmas toys for needy children as part of this year’s Cool Yule Toys for Tots Christmas party. Admission to the event is one new, unwrapped toy or a $10 donation. “Toys For Tots is a wonderful charity and it’s localized, so the toys go directly to the kids in this area,” Cool says.

Other acts joining the line up include Nevertheless, JamiSun, Sarah Cole and the Hawkes, Hot Sauce, Hollow Point, Jeff Dent, and The Sandinistas. Each band will play 30-40 minute sets.

Cool and the rest of the Cool Yule gang will also be giving away gifts to a few lucky attendees, including a weekend getaway for two at the Tides hotel, rounds of golf, and even a custom bike. Piggy Wiggly will provide a free buffet, and in the spirit of the event, the band members will also be bringing their favorite holiday dishes. You may even get lucky enough to snag some of Cool’s “Four Level Nacho Dip,” a perennial favorite at holiday gigs. The event begins at 4 p.m.
