Some artists are content having their works hang over someone’s couch for decades. Others crave a broader audience; for them, there are a handful of opportunities coming up that will plaster their art around town.
The City of North Charleston is seeking applicants for the 2012 North Charleston Arts Festival design competition. Scheduled for May 4-12, the festival is a nice little precursor to all the Spoleto madness. The winning design will be used on promotional materials and merchandise including ads, brochures, posters, apparel, and more. The winner will also get $500 and the chance to exhibit other works at the North Charleston City Gallery. The application deadline is Jan. 21, and there’s no entry fee. Call (843) 740-5854 for more info.
The Piccolo Spoleto Festival also needs a fresh poster design, as does the 2012 Charleston Farmers Market. The deadlines are Dec. 1 and 2, respectively. Direct any questions to the Office of Cultural Affairs at (843) 724-7305.
