The Ashley Bakery recently opened a retail shop in West Ashley at 1662 Savannah Hwy. in the same shopping center as Five Guys.

The bakery, owned by Bernie and Eileen Ferri, has been in the business 22 years now, taking special orders from patrons for breads and cakes. With clients ranging from Peninsula Grill to Hank’s to plenty of local mom and pop restaurants, there’s a chance you’ve already tasted one of the bakery’s creations.

Eileen, a Charleston native, strives to re-create dishes from the local bakeries of her youth. These traditional offerings include whipped cream cakes, cinnamon rolls, and toffee bars. However, the shop offers some unusual selections as well: red velvet makes its way into cupcakes, cookies, and even doughnuts.

If you’re looking to browse, the shop is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Fridays and 9-11 a.m. on Saturdays. However, for those placing larger orders, Ferri says it’s best to call ahead. (843) 763-4125.
