Charleston’s got a strong cocktail culture. Although we love a good beer, we’re also pretty big fans of a well-mixed cocktail, whether classic or completely innovative, and certain bars around town have gained a reputation for their mixologists alone. It’s some serious business.

So it’s not surprising that cocktail challenges — in which local bartenders face off to create the yummiest cocktail with a specific type of liquor, are such a big hit here. And the Bacardi Mojito Challenge is one of the most popular. Set in the S.C. Aquarium, the event draws nearly 1,000 imbibers with a hankering for one of summer’s favorite drinks: the mojito.

On Tues. June 23 at 7 p.m., bartenders from 14 different local bars will be frantically mixing their Bacardi, mint, and lime with whatever other original ingredients they can come up with in an attempt to steal the winning title from Coast, which has taken the competition for the last two years. It’s gonna be a stressful night behind the bar, but a fun one for you; all you have to do is drink as many mojitos as you can while remaining sober enough to tell the difference between them and vote on your favorite. Believe me, it’s not as easy as it sounds. Tickets are $30 and benefit the Special Olympics. Tickets are limited and may not be available at the door. Call (800) 765-7276 x301 for more info.
