It’s time to put your game face on, Charleston. On Tues., July 7, the Charleston Battery will take on the two-time MLS champion Houston Dynamo in the quarterfinals of the 2009 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Match. The game will take place at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island, with gates opening at 6:30 p.m. and kick-off at 7:30 p.m.
The Battery advanced to the quarterfinals last Tuesday night after beating Major League Soccer’s Chivas USA with a 3-1 win. After making it all the way to the championship game last year, the Battery lost 2-1 to MLS’s DC United. With $180,000 at stake, this is one tournament not to miss. Among the oldest soccer tournaments of its type in the world, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with the U.S. Soccer Federation.
