It’s important to guitarist Zach Quillen for us to be aware that Sufferin’ Moses is in the process of recording an album as we speak. That news is in consolation of the fact that despite being a working three-piece blues band since 2012, their only recordings at the moment are old covers on Reverbnation. But that will change soon — let’s see what else is developing for the trio in this week’s Beat Juice.

What song is stuck in your head today?
“These Days” by Jackson Browne. It’s been stuck in my head for three months.

Last album you bought?
Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real. Great album from start to finish.

Recent musical discovery?
Dirty Bourbon River Show. My buddy Mike Weathers turned me on to them.

Fave local venue?
Depends on the island… Burns Alley downtown. Pour House Deck on James Island, Tattooed Moose on John’s Island, My Father’s Moustache on Mt. Pleasant, and Smokey’s place in North Charleston.

What’s your best, go-to T-shirt?
Always plain black. Since I was 10. Haha

Your hangover cure is …

Greasy food and water

Last show you went to?
Josh Roberts and the Hinges. The only dude making real rock ‘n’ roll in my opinion.

What station’s always on your radio dial?
105.5 or OHM

Your musical style can be compared to?
Freddie King, CCR, Chris Stapleton, and Sturgill Simpson.

What band have you been meaning to listen to?
I really wanna dig back into some more old honky tonk and Motown.

What’s next for you? Shows, videos, song or album releases?
We aren’t doing a bunch of shows these days, because we are focusing on writing and recording our first original album. We will be done with it by early spring. Can’t wait to share my songs with everyone!
