New pop-punk band One Step Forward just released their first single “Through the Motions” this month, and will have a music video and album to follow. The five-piece easy core outfit just played Tin Roof with local metalcore band Agony and indie rockers Fraud, and they are bringing back the early 2000s not only in their sound, but also in their musical influences—you haven’t heard the names Papa Roach or Blink-182 uttered in too long, am I right? Let’s see what other names they guys will drop in this week’s Beat Juice.

1. What is your biggest creative inspiration right now?
Rhett: Charleston has always been a place where we’ve had the privilege to see the bands we grew up loving. Over the years, the pop punk scene has diminished pretty hard from what it was in the later 2000s. Our inspiration is to bring life back into this music scene that once thrived in Charleston, and to have a really fun time doing it.

Robert: Blink-182, Abandoned By Bears, Converge
Jeff: For the Fallen Dreams, Misery Signals, Deftones

Jack: Papa Roach, Sevendust, Deftones.

3. What song is stuck in your head today?
Rhett: “Lock Meowt” by Carousel Kings
Robert: “Sleep Paralysis” by Fraud

6. Fave local venue?
Robert: Currently, my favorite local venue is Tin Roof in West Ashley, because they’re always down to let us have a show. And we always see friends and have a great time.
Rhett: Does anyone remember The Oasis on James Island? That was my favorite venue!

7. What’s your best go-to T-shirt?
Rhett and Robert: Anything black, preferably with an illegible band name on it.

8. Your hangover cure is …
Rhett: An Aleve before bed and Moe’s the next day
Robert: Advil and Cracker Barrel
Jeff: Water before and after

Robert: Rivers of Nihil
Jeff: Can’t Swim
