[image-1] If you’re out for deals this Black Friday, you should head to Belk for average discounts nearing 70 percent, according to one survey this holiday.
The Charlotte-based department store has average discounts ringing up at 68.9 percent according to analysis by Wallethub, up six percent over last year and up nearly 10 percent since 2015. Coming in second, JC Penney is serving up 65.1 percent discounts on average.
Traditional department stores like Belk and Penney’s rely more on deep discounts to lure in guests and churn through product while other big box retailers like Wal-Mart use a “everyday low price” model. For reference, Wallethub found Wal-Mart’s average Black Friday discounts at around 30 percent. Best Buy and Amazon each featured similar discounts.
Belk didn’t come out on top in any individual categories, but they did show up in the top five across categories from apparel to consumer electronics to jewelry.
In the Charleston area, you can find Belk stores at Citadel Mall, Northwoods Mall, Mt. Pleasant Towne Centre, and in Summerville.
