Kaminsky’s

Pastry chef Christina Buchspics starts her day around five in the morning. She arrives at the Mt. Pleasant Kaminsky’s, surveys the massive dessert cases to see what’s needed, makes a to-do list, and then starts baking. By 10 a.m. on a Saturday morning, she’s covered in apricot glaze and has baked stacks of pies, decorated countless cakes, and replenished the cake display with desserts that are so tall and perfectly presented, you’d think Martha Stewart herself had done them. The Johnson & Wales-trained chef says the fresh fruit torte, the red velvet, and the mountain of chocolate are the three most popular and famous of Kaminsky’s desserts. Herself? She’s partial to white chocolate mousse cake and the chocolate peanut butter cake. Whatever your favorite, you can be sure that the chefs at Kaminsky’s are freshly baking your cake from scratch on a near-daily basis. For a mere $32 you can even take one of these monsters home and become intimately familiar with why Kaminksy’s has won Best Desserts in Charleston for 10 years in a row.
