Guerrilla artist Shepard Fairey created the single coolest piece of political propaganda since the glory days of the Soviet Union — the Barack Obama “Hope” poster. In the days and months that followed, Fairey was featured in newspapers and magazines across the nation, appeared on The Colbert Report, designed the cover for Time‘s person of the year issue, and was arrested not once but twice for his “artistic” pursuits. And now he’s suing the Associated Press in a bid to challenge the news wire’s claim that it actually owns the image of “Hope.” If that weren’t enough, Fairey has a major retrospective going on at an art center in Boston. When it rains, it pours for ol’ Shepard.
