Mike Thompson

Local singer/songwriter Mike Thompson has quietly established himself on the scene as a folksy acoustic guitarist with a soulful voice and a laid-back demeanor. Through the years, he’s performed solo and conducted a series of special open mics and “country karaoke” nights at downtown bars and various music venues around the city from Market Street Saloon to Brinson’s Beef & Brew, West Ashley Bait & Tackle, A Dough Re Mi, and beyond.

While his solo act leans on a mix of twangy, melodic original material and old-school country and rock classics, his latest band, Sin County (featuring guitarist Henry G., bassist Lance Gatch, and drummer Bryan Compton) is more “country music kicked in the ass by rock ‘n’ roll.”

“I think my singing style is the result of having no bias when choosing the music I’ve listened to over the years,” says Thompson. “I like to croon and to holler. I’m definitely more unpolished than a good deal of folks, but I think that appeals to people. I don’t sound like a karaoke all-star, and I think that’s good.”
