Charleston Fashion Week
March 20-24, 2007. Marion Square.
Last March, style maven Ayoka Lucas of Charleston magazine hit on a winning idea and replicated Bryant Park’s Fashion Week right in the middle of Marion Square. Tents were erected, models were outfitted, and a week’s worth of shows went by. Not only did Lucas tap Charleston’s top designer Mary Norton (Moo Roo) for a fitting finale, but she snagged Project Runway‘s Laura Bennett to make an appearance. It could have seemed a shallow effort had Lucas not found the perfect cause to help out — Dress for Success. By pairing up with a charity that helps outfit underprivileged women in quality business attire, Charleston Fashion Week proved something as seemingly frivolous as fashion could make a serious impact on people’s lives.
