A Dough Re Mi Pizzeria
1220 Ben Sawyer Blvd. Mt. Pleasant.
Just over a year ago, the cozy pizza tavern on the edge of Old Mt. Pleasant was veering away from live entertainment entirely. When booking agent and sound engineer Stuart “Allnight” Johnson (of local band Allnightkungfu) jumped back into action, he started concentrating primarily on booking blues-based acts. He was on to something. Eventually, local blues musicians and fans started showing up on a regular basis. Word got out. Support grew. Cool national acts and local up-and-comers made repeat visits. A group of like-minded players and blues cats formed the “Lowcountry Blues Club” and started meeting at the Dough every Tuesday evening for a jam session. The recent Lowcountry Blues Bash events at the club were all packed. These days, their calender features the likes of Todd Wolfe, Brett “Hitman” Barnard, Shrimp City Slim, Wyatt Garey, Chuck Morris, Tommy Thunderfoot, Jeff Liberty, and The Rev. Dr. Johnny Mac & Booty Ranch, to name just a few — and they all do the boogie in some fashion. —
