The inaugural Kulture Klash back in late 2007 spawned a whole new style of partying in Charleston — one where the arts, in all its forms, played a key role. The event, housed in the industrial Navy Yard at Noisette, embraced street art particularly. Very quickly similar events started popping up around town. Events touting breakdancing, hula hooping, and live graffiti as their main form of entertainment. Darkness 2 Light even got in on the action with its 2008 gala. While these artforms are all very admirable in their own right, they no longer make for cutting-edge entertainment. Party planners should think of a new shtick, or just stop acting like their passé entertainment is the shit.
