Best Tattoo Artist
Brad Grimes, Blu Gorilla

Brad Grimes said he doesn’t really think of himself as the best tattoo artist in Charleston, but he just made winning this award a three-peat, so what would you call him?

“I don’t look at myself as being the best because I’m always looking to learn,” the tattoo artist from Blu Gorilla said. “I do try to make my customers feel good and have a good experience so they come back and tell more people about my work. I do a lot of giveaways too, just to give back to the people and community.”

Like any artist would, Grimes said it’s hard to nail down what he considers his favorite piece of the year, mostly because he works on so many. Grimes does a lot of floral and dot work, which comes in place a lot with his work with female clients. But, he’s recently started getting more into black and gray pieces, which is bringing a lot more men into his chair.

And, the award going to one of the few tattoo artists in South Carolina native to the Palmetto State is just one exciting aspect about Grimes taking it home.
