- Sam Bush
Boone Hall Plantation’s summer concert program concludes with a bluegrass showcase on Labor Day weekend. It’s part of the Piggly Wiggly BBQ Championship and Bluegrass Festival on Sun. Sept. 4, from 12-9 p.m.
Mandolinist and bandleader Sam Bush headlines the event. He and his band will bring a mix of modern bluegrass, folk-rock, and roots to the stage on the spacious back lawn. Bush’s latest studio album, Laps In Seven, teamed him with the legendary Emmylou Harris, Missouri vocalist Jeff Black, and French violinist Jean-Luc Ponty.
Known as the Queen Of Bluegrass, fiddler/mandolinist Rhonda Vincent and her ensemble co-headline the festival (Vincent is sponsored by Martha White baking products; look for the big Martha White tour bus). Vincent’s latest is titled Taken.
Rounding out the bill is Next Best Thing (featuring Vincent’s two daughters), and two local bluegrass favorites — the Homeboy Reunion Bluegrass Band and Common Ground. A variety of barbecue, Southern fare, and beverages will be available for purchase.
Advance tickets are on sale for $25 (adults) and $8 (kids from 6-12). No coolers or pets allowed.
