It’s hard to imagine a more depressing workday than a Wednesday after the Fourth of July. Right smack in the middle of the week with a hangover, firework explosions still ringing in your ears, and regret over how much encased meat you devoured. No one said being an American was easy. But you somehow managed to survive it and now the weekend is on the horizon. And where there’s a weekend, there’s beer.

THURSDAY

The self-proclaimed nerds at Tradesman and Frothy Beard brewing companies collaborated on two Belgian-style beers that they named after the exoplanetary system TRAPPIST-1. They’ll be tapping their singel and dubbel on the rooftop at The Watch at 6:30 p.m., and even if astronomy isn’t your thing, beer surely is.

FRIDAY

Two Blokes Brewing welcomes 2 Nixons for the release of First Blood, a hefeweizen brewed with blood oranges, cask conditioned with tangerines, and dry-hopped with Mosaic hops.

Ghost Monkey Brewing is turning one and throwing itself a four-day birthday party. Check their Facebook page for the full list of events, but on Friday there will be live music from The Rescue Blues with Dave ‘N’ Dubs food truck on site.

First Friday heads to Cooper River Brewing to host its July networking and happy hour event. Rebel Taqueria will be on hand serving food, and there will be brewery giveaways. The event is from 5:30-9 p.m.

SATURDAY

The Funk Collective Festival is finally here and should be a can’t-miss experience for any sour beer fan. The event, which was borne of Wicked Weed’s sale to AB InBev and its subsequent cancellation of the Funkatorium Invitational, is being hosted at Greenville’s Birds Fly South Ale Project. For $65, guests will get unlimited sampling from 4-8 p.m. during Saturday’s general admission event. There will be over 35 independent breweries from across the country pouring funky beers, including Charleston’s own Revelry Brewing, Edmund’s Oast, Freehouse Brewery, Charles Towne Fermentory, and Westbrook Brewing. There is also a more exclusive event on Friday night that will highlight just Upstate South Carolina breweries. Admission to that is part of the $113 VIP package.

Freehouse Brewery will offer yoga by the Ashley River for the first time at the tap room from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Later in the day they will have have an acoustic music open mic.

Frothy Beard Brewing has created its first lager — Pelican Pilsner — and will release it to the public at the taproom beginning at 11 a.m.

Craftsmen Kitchen & Tap House will have a mini tap takeover featuring beers from Rusty Bull Brewing, which begins distributing in the area this week.

SUNDAY

Detox after a long week of good beer at Twisted Cypress Brewing’s Sunday Funday Vinyasa. The class is $20 for one hour and rewards participants with a beer of their choice afterward.
