Equine-loving Charlestonians donned their preppy finery and headed out to Hollywood for the Charleston Cup Steeplechase on Sunday. After an eight year hiatus, there was a distinct energy in the air as new and old racing fans set up their tailgates surrounding the track at Stono Ferry Plantation. The day was split into four races, with horses with names like Southern Admiral, Bermuda, and Homegrown Lass (and their brightly dressed jockeys) battling it out for a chance at victory.

While the thoroughbreds were stunning, most folks were much more focused on everything going on off the track. Tailgating set-ups ran the gamut from Budweiser and big rig affairs to candelabra-lit, champagne-popping fetes. Whether covertly betting on the horses, playing cornhole, barbecuing whole hogs, or downing too much bourbon, all attendees managed to stay busy during the long lulls between races.
