Good vibes, friendly gestures, and funny holiday costumes flooded the main room and the outside deck at the Pour House during the Cord and Pedal Christmas Ball on Sun. Dec. 19. Members of the local Shrimp Records collective had already covered the stage (and the PA system) in Christmas decorations and gift wrap by the time things kicked off at 8 p.m. Many attendees brought donations for Toys for Tots, handing them off to Santa (played by a surly Mark Hudgins) by the front door. Other made donations to Charleston Animal Society.

Curator Cary Ann Hearst enthusiastically emceed the event and kept things rolling at a steady pace. Nearly 20 acts performed two-song sets over the course of the night. Some were acoustic duos. Others involved fully amplified lineups and backing singers. The songs ranged from kindergarten holiday jingles and standard carols to weird twists on classic rock hits and wild original compositions (I even got to play and sing "Holly Jolly Christmas" early in the night).
