Dance classes start up again at Charleston Ballet Theater‘s school Aug. 16, and returning dancers will see a fresh face among the instructors. Ashley Lazenby, 22, recently graduated from Kennesaw State University with a degree in Exercise and Health Science. She left behind her beloved students at the Georgia Dance Conservatory and the Ruth Mitchell Dance Theatre, where she got her start, to take the job with CBT.

Lazenby started dancing at the age of three, and she says that a transient childhood helped her grow as a dancer.

“My family moved a great deal with my father’s job (restaurant business), so I changed dance schools frequently. I attribute a great deal of my versatility to the many amazing instructors I have had,” she says.

She specializes in traditional modern dance, tap, fosse jazz, hip-hop, and clean funk. She’ll also be working as a performing member of CBT this season.

“I am excited to begin the next chapter of life in this amazing city and experience all it has to offer … Is Charleston ready for me?” Lazenby says.
