James Islanders, put down the Kindle and pull out those dusted-over library cards. This Fri. Sept. 29 at 10 a.m., construction will begin on the new James Island Baxter Patrick branch located at the intersection of South Grimball Road and Nathaniel Drive.

The construction of this 20,000 square foot facility comes as a result of a referendum approved way back in Nov. 2014 that called for the building of five new area libraries and the renovation of 13 others. After soliciting community input for the five new locations, community meetings were held in each region slated to receive a library.
According to plans presented by architects at a James Island community meeting on March 6, the library will have a section for teens, adults, and children, along with a separate meeting room area. There will be ample parking, along with two porches and a service area (see below). Visit ccpl.org/construction to keep up to date with branch designs and status updates.
