Designers, it’s time to put on your thinking caps and dust off your trusty Singer. Charleston Fashion Week is accepting applications for the 2012 Emerging Designer Competition starting Fri. Aug. 5 and extending through Oct. 13. Being featured in the competition can be a huge step forward for ambitious young designers — past contestants have included Project Runway star Carol Hannah Whitfield, swimsuit designer Marysia Reeves, and Lindsey Carter of Troubadour.

Emerging designers should be spotlight-ready — their designs will be seen by hundreds of attendees, media, and high-profile judges like Cynthia Rowley, Elle magazine’s Anne Slowey, and New York Fashion Week creator Fern Mallis. This year’s competition is open to the entire east coast, from Maine to Florida. Twenty semifinalists will be selected from the applicants to compete for the grand prize.
