The Charleston Battery will open its 2021 season at home against the Charlotte Independence on May 14 at 7 p.m. — the team released its full 32-game slate for 2021 Tuesday.

The home opener marks the first major opening day at the team’s new Patriots Point stadium, which was put to use last year after extensive renovations in 2020. But after the pandemic put a pause on fan presence last season, the Battery will welcome spectators back into the seats as the club opens attendance up to 50% capacity for the early season.

“We’ve been building towards this for a long time now,” club executive chairman Rob Salvatore said in a press release. “And while we were able to share a preview of what the new era of the Battery at Patriots Point will look like with a few fans last season, now that we have a date, an opponent and the ability to open our doors, we are very excited.”

The club kicked off its preseason training March 16 and is scheduled to play a series of friendly games and exercises leading up to the season start in May, when the Battery opens its season on the road in New York. In all, the Battery will play 32 games over a 28-week season.

Tickets for the home opener against Charlotte are available online through SeatGeek. Tickets are available in groups of 2 to 4 to allow for maximum spacing in accordance with state and local safety guidelines.
