Want to give professional soccer a shot? The Battery, Charleston’s USL Pro soccer team, will host two open player trials for the 2013 season. The first session will be Nov. 30-Dec. 1, and the second will be Jan. 11-12.

For a $150 registration fee, you get a chance to join the 2012 USL Pro Champion team, plus dinner on Friday and lunch on Saturday at the Three Lions Club in Blackbaud Stadium. Lest you think this is just a way to get money out of amateurs, bear in mind that the team has signed several players through the open-trial process in recent years, including Taylor Mueller, Mark Wiltse, JC Mack, Sean Flatley, O’Brian Woodbine, and Zach Prince.

To register for a tryout, visit the Charleston Battery website. The team will also host an invitation-only pre-season trial camp Feb. 8-10.
